Beware of phone call scams. Today I received an automated call from an automated voice saying that my FPL utility services were schedule for interruption today, and to press 1 to speak to a live person.
I pressed 1 and got a man’s voice on the phone. He said that FPL had not received my payment and my services were schedule to be disconnected today. I asked how I can stop this from happening and he said that I could make a payment at the local store or over the phone.
I know FPL (my electrical utility company) had received my payment sine I had received an email 4 days earlier, I have an online account with them and receive normal email notifications.
So I played along. When I asked them about my account number, they hung up.
This Utility service disconnect scam is starting back and up and everyone should be aware so they don’t fall victim. The person who I spoke with spoke in clear english and did not have the normal bad accent or broken english. He was also very believable with his tone.
