Received an email today with the title Estimate from KANESHIA TIMMONS (0047), and it’s seemed to come from Paypal. The Email was sent from Kanesha Timmons, email [email protected]. But it was a Paypal fake email scam. When I looked at the reply to email it was the same Kanesha Timmons but email [email protected].
The email had a note:
Note from KANESHIA TIMMONS
purchase of Binance Coin (BNB) $ 789. 97 was approved. If you have not done this and need the Refund, Call us immediately at +1 (888) 226-8455
There was an email on the email that said (View Your Estimate). I never click on links in emails. What I did was to copy the link and open it in a secure browser. To my surprise the link was to a paypal address, and did show an invoice.
As you can tell, the email and the invoice both look very believable. Until you call the (888) 226-8455 phone number and a person with an Indian accent answer right away, and there’s background noise as if he was driving a car. If you have ever tried to call Paypal, you know they never answer right away, and you have to have a code to be able to talk to anyone.
He answered with “paypal, how can I help you?”. When I mentioned the email and invoice, he said ok. But there was a lack of professionalism that made it obvious this was a scam and not really paypal.
Bottom line, beware of fake email scam. Some look very real. Never click on links in emails, and never give anyone your person information over the phone, specially if you receive a suspicious email, such as this one from claiming to be paypal.
